Rockin' with a message: Fireflight in concert March 1 in Mountain Home
Fireflight, a rock band with a message and one of the top Christian rock CDs of 2008, is coming to Mountain Home as part of its current national tour. It will be in town for an afternoon concert March 1 at Dunbar Auditorium.
A five-member band best known for its hard-driving sound and strong ballads, Fireflight recently performed at Winter X Games 13 in Aspen, Colo. Video and music from part of its performance there has been used by ESPN and ABC Sports.
Tickets for the concert are $5 and will be available at Christian Book Outlet at 40 Plaza Way, Suite 40, and from First Christian Church. Tickets also are available through www.itickets.com. Doors for the concert will open at 2 p.m. with the music to start at 3.
Fireflight features Dawn Richardson on lead vocals, Wendy Drennen on bass and vocals, Justin Cox on guitar and background vocals, Glenn Drennon on guitar and Phee Shorb on drums.
Based in Orlando, Fla., Fireflight has been on tour through the United States and in Europe in recent months. Its current album, "Unbreakable," has been a top-selling CD since its release last March. It debuted at No. 10 on Billboard's "Heatseekers" chart and received rave reviews. The title single hit No. 1 on Christian rock charts and stayed there four weeks. The "Unbreakable" single also was used by NBC in promos for last year's "Bionic Woman" TV series. A second single, "The Hunger," also was No. 1.
Last fall, Fireflight won Taco Bell's first "Best of the Beat" fan-voted contest, and that helped lead to the band's appearance at the Winter X Games. The group was named Gospel Music Channel's first "Listen Up Artist" last year. Fireflight's national debut was in 2006 with the CD "The Healing of Harms," which produced two No. 1 singles.
Fireflight's music style has been compared to bands such mainstream bands as Linkin Park and Evanescence, and Richardson has been described as one of Christian rock's strongest front women. The group's music touches on a variety of topics and is inspired by many sources. Richardson has said in interviews that "Unbreakable" has roots in the biblical story of the adulterous woman who was brought to Jesus, and when the crowd wanted to stone her he said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
Even in dealing with themes such as depression and loneliness, Fireflight offers a positive message urging young people to take a stand for faith.

The concert is sponsored by the Mountain Home First Christian Church with support from East Side Baptist Church and the First Assembly of God. For more information about the concert or tickets, call 425-3281.
